Patient Account Representative I

Under general direction, the Billing/Follow-up Rep Facility (Remote) is responsible for completing assigned tasks related to customer service, collections, cash posting, billing, and follow-up activities as directed by CBO Management. The role is expected to meet assigned quality and productivity standards.

Key responsibilities

  • Respond promptly, professionally, and courteously to customer needs
  • Cooperate and communicate effectively with McLaren Health Care team members
  • Contribute to continuous quality improvement efforts
  • Complete tasks accurately and in a timely manner
  • Organize time and prioritize work effectively
  • Practice cost-effective measures
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding patients, the hospital, the department, and human resources
  • Bill hospital and physician claims for inpatient and outpatient services within insurance filing limits
  • Interpret third-party requirements and bill facility and physician services appropriately
  • Maintain patient accounts in billing and claims editing systems
  • Respond to patient and commercial inquiries by phone or written correspondence
  • Contact insurance companies regarding unreleased, unprocessed, or outstanding bills
  • Work with other departments and insurance companies to resolve billing and claim edits
  • Notify analysts of edits that need to be built and denials representatives of denial trends
  • Coordinate and monitor billing activities related to bone marrow transplant package pricing
  • Follow up with third-party payors to obtain payment and resolve patient accounts
  • Review and follow up on Age Trial Balance reports monthly
  • Resolve issues involving third-party payor and self-pay claims
Requirements & Qualifications

Minimum qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED

Preferred qualifications

  • Associate degree in Health Care, Finance, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
  • Working knowledge of CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-1
  • One year of experience in hospital financial or patient services
