Under the direction of the Supervisor, the Revenue Cycle Specialist I performs billing and collection activities for inpatient, outpatient, emergency, and professional services.
Responsibilities include third-party insurance billing and collections, denial review and appeals processing, payment application, credit balance review and resolution, self-pay billing and collections, financial assistance, and bad debt applications.
The role supports hospital and professional billing, insurance follow-up, self-pay collections, and enterprise payment posting. It also involves cash handling, reconciliation, refunds, and maintaining productivity and accuracy goals while providing strong customer service.
Education
- High School Diploma or equivalent
Experience
- 1+ year of experience in a healthcare setting
Preferred experience and skills
- Working knowledge of self-pay or insurance billing and collections
- Familiarity with insurance terminology
- Knowledge of UB-04, CMS-1500, and Explanation of Benefits (EOB) interpretation
- Knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS, and modifiers
- Understanding of medical reimbursement policies and procedures
- Epic EHR experience
