Performs all phases of third-party billing and follow-up for services provided by EVMS Medical Group clinical staff.
Responsible for electronic and manual billing to third-party payers in a timely and proficient manner while maintaining the PayerPath system.
Reviews manual claim forms for accuracy before submission and ensures required documentation and attachments are included for CPT, ICD-10, and modifier coding practices.
Communicates with EVMS Medical Group clinical departments, hospitals, and patients to obtain insurance data and medical documentation needed to file claims.
Operates the Touchworks Scan filing system to retrieve documentation, referrals, and other pertinent claim information.
Reviews IDX claim edit lists and makes corrections to data entry errors or missing information.
Posts insurance billing and appeal status paycodes to claims.
Handles insurance follow-up, account research, and resolution of outstanding third-party claims.
Maintains work files and uses tickler systems to track carrier promises to pay.
Coordinates with clinical departments to expedite claim processing and supports account adjustments for review.
Handles incoming calls from insurance carriers and responds to requests in a timely manner.
High school diploma or GED.
Basic computer and keyboarding skills.
Ability to communicate clearly and follow written processes and procedures.
Ability to maintain composure in stressful situations.
Prior medical billing experience is highly desired but not required.
