Gastro Florida is the largest gastroenterology group in Tampa Bay, with over 65 providers and more than 25 locations across Pinellas, Hillsborough, Pasco, Hernando, and Polk counties. The organization offers GI screening and treatment, colon cancer prevention, non-surgical cancer intervention, IBD infusions and therapy, nutrition and weight loss services, monitoring between visits, pharmacy and pathology services, and clinical research.
This role supports the Central Business Office and focuses on billing, coding, claims follow-up, denials, appeals, and researching unpaid balances. The position works under the Billing Manager and helps ensure accurate claim submission, account maintenance, and patient collection efforts.
Responsibilities include:
- Code, prepare, and submit clean claims to insurance companies via electronic and paper submissions
- Monitor insurance claims, run reports, and contact insurance companies to resolve unpaid claims
- Identify coding or billing problems from EOBs and correct errors in a timely manner
- Identify payer issues and trends and resolve recoup issues
- Update demographic information in patient account records and document actions taken on the account
- Provide thorough and accurate account updates and notes in the computer system
- Identify problem accounts and escalate as appropriate
- Work with patients and guarantors to secure payment on outstanding balances
- Research and obtain necessary provider or office information
- Sort and file correspondence
- Verify patient eligibility with insurance carriers
- Calculate and collect out-of-pocket expenses for patients
- Obtain and maintain CPC, CGIC, or similar coding certifications
- Able to work overtime as needed, including evenings and weekends
- Attend staff meetings, phone conferences, and training as needed
- Maintain confidentiality of all company and patient information in accordance with HIPAA regulations and company policies
