The Accounts Receivable Biller is responsible for timely billing, internal review processes, and insurance functions in the hospital.
Responsibilities include:
- Filing appeals timely on underpaid or denied accounts with a good understanding of medical necessity guidelines specific to procedures.
- Making payment arrangements with patients for timely resolution of balances, following self-pay policy.
- Posting write-offs, account adjustments, and corrections daily to patient accounts.
- Entering and reconciling all charges and credits to patient accounts.
- Filing electronic and/or paper insurance claims daily.
- Reviewing each Explanation of Benefits received with payments to verify reimbursement determinations and beginning the appeal process as necessary.
- Reviewing the status of assigned accounts for unpaid claims and following up appropriately with insurance companies or patients.
- Using Medicare FISS, Medicaid, and Rycan/Truebridge systems for billing and claims inquiry.
- Managing insurance aging effectively and timely to meet department goals.
- Assisting the Patient Service Manager with reports or other projects as requested.
- Handling phone calls regarding account balances or insurance filings.
- Documenting concisely, precisely, and accurately on records or documents as indicated by policy.
- Communicating effectively and working cooperatively and professionally with co-workers, management, patients, visitors, physicians, and others.
- Participating in quality assessment activities to support continuous improvement of patient care and hospital business.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
- Supporting the mission and core values of the hospital.
- Following hospital policies and maintaining patient and hospital confidentiality.
Requirements & Qualifications
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Two years of previous experience with accounts receivable, billing, and insurance required.
- Computer skills, basic office skills, and knowledge of medical terminology required.
- Must be able to read and speak English fluently.
- Requires cognitive skills for math, reading, computer skills, and communication skills to interact effectively with the public and peers.
- Must be able to lift a maximum of 20-30 pounds.
