A/R Specialist

Carolina NeuroSurgery & Spine Associates

Carolina Neurosurgery and Spine Associates is seeking a full-time A/R Specialist for its Charlotte office.

The role is focused on maximizing practice revenue by working efficiently with internal teams to meet monthly revenue cycle management goals. The position supports claim follow-up, denial resolution, refunds, and communication with insurance carriers while maintaining confidentiality and HIPAA compliance.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Following up with insurance companies on assigned claims
  • Resubmitting claims or inquiries and working clearinghouse rejections
  • Monitoring accounts until they reach zero balance or transfer to patient responsibility
  • Reviewing denials from the claim scrubbing process
  • Assisting with coding and error resolution from the clearinghouse and insurance companies
  • Processing refunds in a timely manner
  • Reducing claim denial turnaround time through insurance follow-up
  • Assisting the front desk with carrier questions
  • Submitting secondary insurance claims when needed
  • Following HIPAA and compliance guidelines
  • Participating in training and staying current on carrier policy changes
  • Completing additional tasks as assigned by management
Requirements & Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma or GED required

Experience

  • Minimum of 1 year of billing or front desk experience in a healthcare organization

Knowledge and skills

  • Medical and insurance terminology
  • Payer guidelines
  • Legal and ethical considerations related to patient information
  • HIPAA guidelines and policies
  • Customer service principles and techniques
  • Time management, problem solving, multitasking, and prioritizing
  • Effective communication
  • Basic Microsoft Office Suite skills
  • Detail-oriented

Abilities

  • Build effective working relationships with coworkers and diverse patient populations
  • Analyze situations and respond appropriately
  • Organize and prioritize information and assignments
  • Work independently with little or no supervision

Work environment

  • Office-based role with most communication to insurance companies via phone
  • Sitting and standing in a typical office environment
  • Speaking and hearing required for in-person and phone communication
