The Acute Coding Appeals Specialist applies medical coding principles and coding expertise to review, research, and write appeals for inpatient DRG denials. This role evaluates coding and clinical documentation to support assigned codes, identify billing and coding issues, and address quality concerns.
This is a remote role with occasional travel or onsite work as needed for client, temporary, or corporate office locations.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Previous inpatient facility coding experience, including appeals, denials, and edits
- 5+ years of coding experience
- Advanced knowledge of medical coding and billing systems, documentation, and regulatory requirements
- Active coding certification such as RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CIC, CPC, or COC
- High school diploma or GED
- Ability to travel and work onsite as business needs require
- Inquisitive mindset and openness to innovation, including AI-enabled process improvement
