CDI Specialist I

Inpatient Clinical Documentation Integrity (ICDI) Specialist responsible for reviewing patient medical records in inpatient and outpatient settings to capture an accurate representation of illness severity and support proper coding.

This role validates that coding reflects medical necessity and ensures documentation accurately represents the patient's clinical status, expected risk of mortality, and complexity of care. The specialist identifies documentation gaps, collaborates with physicians and care teams, and supports quality, compliance, and effective coding practices.

The position is 100% remote and can be performed from anywhere within the U.S.

Requirements & Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Two years of experience in an Inpatient Clinical Documentation Integrity Specialist (ICDIS) role
  • Experience with concurrent review of medical records in the field of ICDI
  • Production role experience within the last 12 months
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to present ideas and concepts effectively to physicians, management, and healthcare team members
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently without close supervision
  • Ability to work well in a creative and challenging environment
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5 years of Academic Level I Trauma facility experience
  • BSN and CCS credentials
  • Proficiency with EPIC and 3M360 CAC
  • Extensive experience working in ICU and mortality reviews
  • Strong writing skills with experience preparing queries
  • Technically savvy
