As an HIM Specialist, you will manage patient health information and medical records to ensure accuracy, compliance, and integrity for patient care.
You will retrieve, file, and organize physical and electronic records, process information requests, verify identities, assist providers with access, conduct quality checks on scanned documents, update demographics, handle correspondence, and respond to inquiries in accordance with privacy regulations.
Additional responsibilities include birth registration functions, answering phones to support HIM customer service, reviewing encounters for completeness and missing documentation, responding to medical record requests from third parties, reviewing pended dictations for action in the EMR, and addressing document messages from providers and staff.
High school diploma or GED
Required experience:
- 1 year working with medical records
- 1 year of medical office experience
Preferred qualifications:
- 1 year of experience with medical records in an acute care HIM environment
- Experience with Electronic Medical Records (EMR)
- Completion of a HIM equivalent study course
- Cerner experience
