This is an advanced-level coding position responsible for coding and abstracting inpatient records for data retrieval, analysis, reimbursement, and research. The role involves assigning diagnostic and procedure codes into a designated coding and abstracting system using the 3M encoder as appropriate, meeting quality and productivity standards, and navigating an EMR. The coder must be able to code across all facilities.
This position is based in Centennial, CO and is also open to remote/out-of-state candidates residing in approved states. Eligible remote states include Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wyoming.
High school diploma or GED required; associate degree preferred.
Minimum of 4 years of coding experience, preferably in an inpatient acute care setting, or at least 2 years of experience plus successful completion of the organization’s internal coding program.
Current AHIMA credentials such as RHIA, RHIT, CCS, or CCS-P, or AAPC credentials such as COC, CIC, CPC-H, or CPC, are required or must be obtained within one year of hire.
Must demonstrate competency in inpatient coding guidelines and DRG assignment.
Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, email, and troubleshooting computer problems.
Experience working successfully in a remote environment is preferred.
Intermediate to advanced technical coding competency in ICD-10-CM, CPT-4, HCPCS, and coding modifiers.
Knowledge of disease management, anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, pharmacology, and coding systems such as 3M.
