Medical Coding Specialist

Optima Medical is an Arizona-based medical group with 30+ locations and 130+ medical providers serving more than 200,000 patients statewide. The organization focuses on improving quality of life through personalized healthcare and a broad range of services including primary care, cardiovascular health, behavioral health, allergy testing and immunotherapy, in-house lab testing, imaging, chronic disease management, and other specialty services.

This position will transition to a fully remote role after up to 30 days of onsite training at the Scottsdale office. Candidates must reside in Arizona and remain in good standing during training.

Requirements & Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Review and assign accurate ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes for diagnoses and procedures based on clinical documentation.
  • Ensure coding compliance with CMS guidelines and state/federal regulations.
  • Write precise, professional, and well-structured feedback to providers and team members.
  • Assist with claim reviews, denials, and coding-related audits to support revenue integrity.
  • Maintain current knowledge of coding guidelines, regulatory changes, and industry best practices.
  • Meet productivity and quality standards.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of medical coding experience in a physician practice or healthcare facility.
  • CPC certification required through AAPC or AHIMA; CPC-A and CCA are not accepted.
  • Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS.
  • Experience with EHR systems, billing software, and Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced production environment while maintaining high accuracy.
  • Strong written communication skills.
  • Solid understanding of medical terminology, disease processes, and physiology.
  • Must live in Arizona.
