The Medical Coding Specialist supports research, dispute resolution, and finalization of potential financial reimbursement obligations for clients. This role involves communication with clients, Medicare recovery contractors, Medicare Advantage Plans, subrogation contractors, Part D Prescription Drug plans, and the Department of Treasury.
The position requires strong analytical ability, attention to detail, productivity in a task-based environment, and effective written and verbal communication skills.
Responsibilities
- Perform eligibility verifications for Medicare, Medicare Advantage, and Part D plans.
- Verify Social Security Disability entitlement.
- Research Medicare benefit plans to identify conditional payments or lien obligations.
- Review correspondence from Medicare benefit plans and assess recovery actions.
- Communicate with client partners to validate claim information and identify opportunities for dispute or lien reduction.
- Apply medical and legal reasoning to support dispute strategies.
- Prepare and submit disputes and appeals to appropriate Medicare entities.
- Follow up on cases to meet turnaround times.
- Maintain communication with management regarding case status and support needs.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Associate degree preferred.
- 1–3 years of relevant experience in a customer service and/or administrative role.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.
- Strong communication skills, including clear written and verbal communication.
- Ability to follow instructions and work independently.
- Strong time management, multitasking, and prioritization skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and adapt to change.
