Responsible for coding all clinical records including IP/OBS/OPS/ED/OP/OT/PT/ST and professional fee services to ensure records are coded, keyed, and billed accurately and in a timely manner. Verifies all orders for compliance and medical necessity, confirms documentation supports treatment and supplies/services charged, and compiles statistical data for PI, training, education, and reporting purposes.
Requirements & Qualifications
Education
- Graduate from an accredited Health Information Management program or hold a coding certification.
- Must provide validation of coding course completion.
- RHIT, CCS, or CPC required.
Experience
- At least 1 year of Critical Access or acute care coding experience required.
Skills
- Ability to work independently.
- Strong ability to work with medical record documentation.
- Strong computer skills.
- Ability to extract substance from complex coding systems.
- Knowledge of coding and reimbursement practices.
- Understanding of DNV, state, and federal record completion standards.
- Knowledge of HIPAA confidentiality regulations.
