EyeCare Partners is a leading provider of clinically integrated eye care with a national network of ophthalmologists and optometrists. This role supports revenue cycle operations by reviewing medical records and charge tickets for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with ICD-9-CM/ICD-10-CM and CPT coding standards.
The Medical Coding Specialist evaluates documentation, identifies discrepancies, assigns and sequences diagnostic and procedural codes, and helps ensure that outpatient visits are correctly coded to support reimbursement and compliance. The role also includes technical guidance and training for physicians and staff, collaboration with denials and RI teams, and support for coding process improvements and documentation standards.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of ICD-10-CM and CPT coding guidelines
- Understanding of medical terminology and state/federal Medicare reimbursement guidelines
- Experience using modifiers and other coding rules, including AMA guidance
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to apply payer requirements and resolve multiple priorities
- Strong problem-solving skills
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or GED required
- 2+ years of medical coding experience, or an associate degree in medical coding and billing, medical administration, or a related field
Licenses and Credentials
- CPC, RHIT, ART, or CCS coding credential required
Systems and Technology
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- Experience with EHR software systems
