Corporate Coding Specialist

New Vista Behavioral Health

The Corporate Coding Specialist supports accurate, compliant, and timely coding practices across the organization’s behavioral health programs and facilities. The role reviews clinical documentation and medical records, assigns diagnosis and procedure codes, identifies documentation gaps, and helps improve coding quality and reimbursement accuracy.

The position works closely with clinical, billing, revenue cycle, utilization management, and health information management teams to maintain consistent coding standards and support audits, quality reviews, compliance efforts, and coding education.

Behavioral health coding responsibilities include reviewing documentation for psychiatric evaluations, psychotherapy, medication management, treatment programs, and substance use disorder services, while ensuring codes align with documentation, payer requirements, and applicable coding guidelines.

Requirements & Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Preferred education:

  • Associate degree or formal education in Health Information Management, Medical Coding, Healthcare Administration, or a related field

Preferred credentials:

  • CPC, CCS, CCA, or equivalent coding certification

Experience and knowledge:

  • Minimum of 2 years of professional medical coding experience preferred
  • Behavioral health coding experience strongly preferred
  • Working knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, clinical documentation, and healthcare reimbursement processes
  • Experience with electronic medical records, coding systems, and Microsoft Office
  • Familiarity with Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payer requirements preferred
  • Experience supporting coding audits, quality assurance, Revenue Cycle, HIM, Compliance, or CDI teams preferred

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive health information
