BayCare is seeking an Advanced Inpatient Coding Specialist for a full-time remote role supporting inpatient medical records coding for complex, multi-day, multi-specialty encounters.
This position focuses on assigning accurate diagnosis and procedure codes using ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS, supporting MSDRG assignment, and helping ensure high-quality documentation and compliant coding practices. The role also partners with clinical documentation and quality teams to support accurate inpatient coding outcomes.
Requirements & Qualifications
Qualifications
- Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) required
- RHIT preferred in addition to CCS
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Associate degree in Health Information Technology preferred
- 5 years of acute care experience required
- 3 years of inpatient coding experience required
Core skills
- Strong knowledge of anatomy, pathophysiology, and pharmacology
- Experience with complex inpatient coding and documentation review
- Ability to formulate physician queries
- Familiarity with ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS coding systems
- Understanding of MSDRG assignment and PSI/HAC review processes
- Ability to mentor and train other coders and students
