The role includes reviewing records and assigning accurate codes, ensuring documentation supports claims, and helping maintain compliance with healthcare regulations and coding guidelines.
Additional responsibilities include:
- Review medical records, physician notes, laboratory results, and diagnostic reports for coding purposes
- Assign accurate diagnosis and procedure codes using ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems
- Ensure compliance with federal regulations, payer requirements, and coding guidelines
- Verify documentation supports assigned codes and reimbursement claims
- Identify and resolve coding discrepancies or incomplete documentation
- Collaborate with physicians and clinical staff to clarify documentation when necessary
- Maintain coding productivity and quality standards
- Post charges
- Prepare and send claims for payment
- Follow up on denied claims and resubmit claims
Requirements & Qualifications
Billing certification required.
- At least 2 years of billing experience required
- Computer knowledge
- Medical terminology and anatomy knowledge
- Attention to detail
- Medical billing experience: 2 years required
- Medical Billing and Coding Certificate required
