Responsible for performing complex coding reviews and audits to assess coding accuracy, identify documentation improvement opportunities, and mitigate organizational risk. Serves as a subject matter expert in professional coding, including CPT, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS. Develops and delivers customized education and training for physicians, advanced practice providers, production coders, and clinic staff. Prepares audit reports, written coding guides, and training materials, and collaborates with leadership on compliance concerns and coding-related risk reduction.
Requirements & Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Current professional coding credential: AAPC (CPC, COC), PMI (CMC), or AHIMA (CCS-P, CCA, CCS, RHIA, RHIT)
- At least 1 year of professional coding experience in a multi-specialty medical group setting
- Strong knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding for professional services
- Knowledge of medical terminology and coding/sequencing guidelines
- Understanding of anatomy, physiology, and disease processes
- Understanding of payer billing requirements
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Preferred: 5 years of coding experience and/or 1–3 years of documentation audit experience in a multi-specialty medical group setting
- Preferred: AAPC specialty certifications such as CPMA, CEMC, CCC, CCVTC, CGIC, CGSC, CIRCC, COBGC, COPC, COSC, or CUC
