Requirements & Qualifications
Qualifications
- Knowledge of multiple insurance billing requirements
- 1-2 years of billing experience
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize to meet deadlines
- Analytical and problem-solving skills
- Customer service experience required
- High school diploma or GED required
Responsibilities
- Bill insurance companies, workers' compensation carriers, and HMO/PPO carriers
- Audit patient accounts to ensure procedures and charges are coded accurately
- Correct billing errors and identify stop loss claims, implants, and missing codes
- Maintain proficiency in medical terminology
- Follow up on insurance balances to ensure timely payment
- Communicate with clients and staff by phone and in person
- Update demographic and billing information as needed
- Enter follow-up notes and retrieve collection and patient information
- Write effective appeals to insurance companies
