We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Medical Biller to join an ophthalmology practice. This role is responsible for managing insurance claims, verifying patient insurance information, and ensuring timely and accurate billing processes.
Key responsibilities include billing and coding ophthalmic procedures, submitting claims, following up on denied or unpaid claims, processing patient billing, communicating with patients and insurance providers, maintaining compliance with healthcare regulations, and preparing billing reports for management. The position also requires close collaboration with front office and clinical teams to support accurate revenue cycle operations.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree in Health Information Management, Medical Billing, or a related field preferred
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in medical billing or a similar healthcare billing role
- Strong knowledge of ICD-10, ICD-9, and CPT coding for ophthalmic procedures
- Familiarity with ophthalmic-specific insurance carriers and procedures
- Ability to handle insurance rejections and appeals efficiently
- Proficiency with EHR/EMR systems such as Epic, Nextech, or similar software
- Knowledge of HIPAA compliance regulations
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
Preferred
- Certification in Medical Billing and Coding such as CPC or CCA
- Experience with Medicare, Medicaid, and other insurance plans commonly used in ophthalmology
