Duties
- Review and interpret medical documentation to assign appropriate CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9, ICD-10, and DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) codes for procedures and diagnoses
- Prepare and submit healthcare claims accurately using billing software and EMR (Electronic Medical Records) or EHR (Electronic Health Records) systems
- Follow up on unpaid or denied claims through effective medical collection strategies and healthcare claims management
- Verify patient insurance coverage, benefits, and health insurance details to ensure proper billing procedures
- Maintain detailed medical records, ensuring all documentation aligns with coding requirements and regulatory standards
- Communicate professionally with insurance companies, healthcare providers, and patients to resolve billing discrepancies or inquiries
- Stay updated on changes in medical coding standards, healthcare regulations, and insurance policies to ensure compliance
Skills
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, medical records management, and coding systems including CPT, ICD-9, ICD-10, ICD coding, and DRG classifications
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications such as Word and Excel for documentation and reporting purposes
- Experience with billing software platforms and EMR/EHR systems used for claims processing and record keeping
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally with patients, providers, and insurers
- In-depth understanding of health insurance policies, healthcare claims management processes, and medical billing regulations
- Ability to analyze complex medical data accurately while maintaining attention to detail
- Familiarity with medical collection procedures to facilitate timely payments and reduce outstanding balances
