Freestanding, physician-owned comprehensive cancer center based in Albuquerque, NM with a satellite clinic in Gallup, New Mexico. The organization is an Oncology Medical Home focused on early intervention for patient symptoms and low hospitalization rates.
The Medical Biller is responsible for ensuring timely charge capture, processing electronic and paper claims, resolving claim rejections and provisional claim issues, and supporting the Business Office with mail processing and supply restocking. The role helps ensure all charges are billed to the appropriate payers and that claims are submitted accurately and on time.
Essential Functions
- Validate office visit charges for Medical Oncology providers using the EMR and practice management system.
- Process charges and submit claims within a 1-day timeframe from the date entered.
- Assign, review, and resolve electronic claim rejections.
- Document and follow up weekly on missing or unfinished patient documentation needed to support claims.
- Print and mail claims with required attachments daily.
- Resolve claims in provisional status so charges can be submitted.
- Ensure submitted claims are acknowledged and accepted by the payer.
- Verify all charges have been submitted appropriately and resolve any charges without claims.
- Handle incoming and outgoing mail, including postage assignment and distribution.
- Support the Billing Office manager and director as needed.
- Communicate issues and improvements needed for billing edits and clean claim submission.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient records.
- Restock supplies and follow all policies and procedures.
- Attend training seminars and staff meetings as necessary.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- 6 months of experience preferred as a Medical Biller; billing and coding classes may be considered as experience.
- 6 months of experience in a medical office setting; billing and coding classes may be considered as experience.
- Ability to read, interpret, and understand operating instructions, policy manuals, and procedure documents.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers.
- Ability to multitask and use office equipment.
- Basic computer skills, EMR and practice management system experience, fast typing skills, and proficiency with MS Office.
