Medical Billing & Accounts Receivable Specialist

We are an Alaska-based medical billing and coding company seeking an experienced Medical Billing and Accounts Receivable Specialist to join the team.

This role is fully remote, but applicants must currently reside in Alaska.

The position focuses on independently managing accounts from initial follow-up through resolution, including identifying why claims have not paid, determining next steps, taking action, and following accounts until they are resolved.

Key responsibilities include working A/R and aging reports, insurance claim follow-up, researching unpaid or denied claims, filing corrected claims and resubmissions, preparing reconsiderations and appeals, reviewing EOBs and ERAs, researching payer policies, communicating with insurance representatives, escalating issues when needed, answering patient billing questions, using insurance portals and clearinghouses, identifying recurring denial or workflow issues, assisting other billing staff, working in multiple billing systems, and maintaining detailed account notes.

Requirements & Qualifications

Previous medical billing experience is required.

Strong insurance A/R experience is required.

Experience independently pulling and working aging reports.

Experience with denials, reconsiderations, corrected claims, and appeals.

Strong understanding of insurance claim processing and reimbursement.

Ability to read and interpret EOBs, ERAs, payer policies, and insurance guidelines.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to communicate confidently with insurance representatives and challenge incorrect claim processing when necessary.

Ability to research issues and determine the appropriate next step independently.

Excellent organization, follow-through, and time management.

Ability to manage multiple outstanding issues without losing track of follow-up.

Ability to learn and adapt to multiple billing systems, insurance portals, and client workflows.

Must be dependable, detail-oriented, organized, and highly motivated.

CPC, CPB, or other AAPC certification preferred but not required.

High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Medical coding experience preferred.

Medical office experience preferred.
