Duties
- Manage accounts receivable by following up on unpaid or denied claims through health insurance claim processing procedures.
- Verify patient insurance coverage, benefits, and eligibility using EMR and EHR systems.
- Resolve billing discrepancies by communicating with insurance companies and healthcare providers to support medical collection efforts.
- Maintain detailed records of billing activities, medical records, and coding documentation in compliance with privacy regulations.
- Stay current with updates in medical coding guidelines for ICD-10/ICD-9, CPT, DRG classifications, and health insurance policies to ensure accurate billing practices.
- Use office applications such as Excel and Teams.
Requirements & Qualifications
Experience and Qualifications
- Proven experience in medical billing and coding within a healthcare setting, preferably with knowledge of reimbursement for physician services.
- Familiarity with payer portals and EMR/EHR systems used for electronic health record management for billing and coding purposes.
- Strong understanding of health insurance claim processing procedures, third-party billing practices, and revenue cycle management strategies.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, medical records management, and medical coding guidelines.
- Prior experience handling medical collections and resolving insurance denials is highly valued.
- Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills to manage multiple accounts efficiently.
- Ability to adapt quickly to evolving healthcare regulations related to ICD-9/ICD-10, CPT coding, and other billing standards.
