Lorain Injury Center is a multidisciplinary chiropractic clinic in Lorain, Ohio, offering chiropractic, physical therapy, massage, acupuncture, spinal decompression, and more. This role is responsible for managing the full revenue cycle for medical claims, with a strong emphasis on workers' compensation billing, personal injury claims, and insurance follow-up. The goal is to ensure timely and accurate reimbursement in support of patient care.
This is a full-time, on-site position in Lorain, Ohio, with competitive pay based on experience and benefits available.
Key responsibilities
- Submit clean claims electronically and on paper to insurance carriers, including Ohio BWC, personal injury auto claims, major health insurers, and managed care organizations.
- Verify patient insurance eligibility, benefits, and authorization requirements prior to or at the time of service.
- Review medical documentation, charges, and coding (CPT, ICD-10) for accuracy and completeness before claim submission.
- Post payments, adjustments, and denials; reconcile accounts receivable reports and aging.
- Manage claim denials, appeals, and resubmissions in a timely manner to maximize reimbursement.
- Handle workers' compensation forms, progress reports, and expedited treatment requests specific to BWC guidelines.
- Generate and send patient statements for balances not covered by insurance; assist patients with billing questions and payment arrangements.
- Communicate effectively with insurance adjusters, attorneys, providers, and patients to resolve billing issues.
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA, BWC regulations, and all applicable billing guidelines.
- Support audits and provide accurate completion of workers' compensation and insurance documentation.
- Collaborate with the clinical team to ensure seamless billing processes.
Qualifications
- Minimum 2+ years of experience in medical billing, preferably in a workers' compensation, personal injury, or multi-specialty clinic setting.
- Strong knowledge of Ohio BWC billing processes, forms, and requirements is highly preferred.
- Proficiency with medical billing software/EHR systems, electronic claim submission, and Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
- Familiarity with CPT, ICD-10 coding, and medical terminology.
- Experience with personal injury claims, liens, and attorney correspondence is a plus.
- Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong communication and customer service skills for interacting with patients, insurers, and internal team members.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; medical billing certification such as CPB or CMBS preferred.
