Wayspring is seeking a driven and analytically curious Actuarial Analyst to help build and expand the company's actuarial reporting and analytics function. Reporting to the Vice President of Actuarial Services, this role offers broad exposure across actuarial work in a growing healthcare organization focused on care for individuals with substance use disorder.
The position supports healthcare cost modeling, reserve development, pricing strategy, trend analysis, program savings evaluation, and IBNR reporting. It is a cross-functional role that partners with finance, operations, population health, and executive leadership to support business decisions and healthcare outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Monitor, modify, and identify abnormalities in eligibility and claims data sets.
- Develop spreadsheet and database tools to manage, analyze, and report data.
- Ensure accuracy and efficiency using existing procedures and document analysis processes.
- Gather, prepare, and present data and review results for reasonableness.
- Generate reports in Excel and provide insights for manager review.
- Create, maintain, and enhance calculation spreadsheets used to validate or supplement actuarial-related or system-generated values.
- Perform detailed manual calculations to support actuarial, product, and policy needs.
- Automate departmental processes to improve efficiency and accuracy.
- Assist with special projects and initiatives.
- Plan and prioritize work in alignment with team objectives.
- Develop business relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Support trend analysis and pricing activities across market segments.
- Assist with cost modeling, IBNR reporting, program savings analysis, and other ad hoc actuarial requests.
- Follow company information security and privacy requirements.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field.
- Passing 2+ Society of Actuaries exams required.
- 2-4 years of experience required.
- Some programming experience; SQL knowledge preferred.
- Microsoft Excel experience required.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Strong communication skills.
