Under direct supervision, this role performs medical record coding activities for oncology-related patient charts and reports. The position is fully remote and supports the US Oncology Compliance Program, including the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.
Responsibilities include abstracting clinical and demographic information from medical records, assigning diagnosis and procedure codes, identifying principal and secondary diagnoses, requesting missing diagnosis information from physicians, recording required medical information, updating coding procedures and guidelines, coordinating medical information with staff, and maintaining confidentiality of medical records.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Completion of a course in medical record technology
- Minimum 1 year of medical coding experience required
- 3 years of medical coding experience preferred
- Applicable certification preferred
- Knowledge of medical records coding procedures
- Knowledge of ICD-9 and CPT-4 coding systems highly desirable
