Role Summary

The Coding Manager will oversee daily coding, abstracting, and data reporting operations across inpatient, outpatient, emergency, and ancillary services. This role partners with HIM senior leadership and clinical teams to improve revenue integrity, workflow efficiency, and team performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily coding workflows, including workqueues, chart distribution, and productivity monitoring.
  • Serve as the liaison between Coding and Clinical Documentation Integrity (CDIP).
  • Monitor DNFB accounts, pre-bill coding edits, and missing documentation to support timely bill drop.
  • Partner with Revenue Cycle, Performance Improvement, Care Management, and HIM leadership on coding denials, trend analysis, and CMS policy updates.
  • Act as a subject matter expert for coding staff and provide guidance on complex coding questions.
  • Conduct quality audits, provide feedback, and identify educational gaps.
  • Facilitate quarterly check-ins and annual performance evaluations.
  • Promote a positive, fair, inclusive, and collaborative team environment.
Requirements & Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Associate degree preferred in Health Information Technology or a related field.
  • Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) required.
  • RHIA or RHIT preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of hospital coding experience required.
  • 5+ years in a supervisory or lead role strongly preferred.
  • Deep knowledge of ICD-10 inpatient coding, CPT outpatient coding, CMS guidelines, NCDs/LCDs, and EMR revenue cycle systems.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and revenue workqueue applications.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with medical staff and leadership.
