Mercor is seeking a Coding Manager / HIM Coding Leader to oversee professional fee and facility inpatient coding operations in a remote contract role.
Responsibilities include:
- Overseeing coding operations to ensure accuracy, productivity, and compliance
- Reviewing AI-generated coding assignments for ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT/HCPCS, and DRG accuracy
- Conducting coding quality audits and providing feedback to staff and AI systems
- Monitoring KPIs such as coder productivity, accuracy rates, unbilled accounts, and denial rates
- Managing workflow queues, work distribution, and turnaround time compliance
- Collaborating with CDI, billing, and compliance teams on revenue integrity issues
- Annotating AI-generated coding outputs to support AI training datasets
Requirements & Qualifications
Must-have
- 5+ years of medical coding experience
- At least 2 years in a coding manager or HIM leadership role
- Expert knowledge of ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT/HCPCS, and Official Coding Guidelines
- Experience with professional fee and/or facility inpatient coding, including DRG assignment
- Experience conducting coding audits and quality improvement programs
- Proficiency with coding software such as 3M, Nuance, Optum360, or TruCode and EHR platforms
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills
- High attention to detail and ability to identify coding errors, compliance risks, and AI inaccuracies
Preferred
- CPC, CCS, RHIA, or RHIT credential
- Experience with CAC tools and NLP-based coding platforms
- Inpatient facility coding experience with DRG optimization
- Familiarity with AI coding tools
- Experience presenting coding performance data and quality metrics to leadership
