The Coding Education Specialist - Inpatient Medicine researches complex coding issues, recommends resolutions, identifies training needs, and develops processes. This role designs, develops, and delivers engaging coding curricula for learners of various skill levels, translating complex coding concepts into accessible learning experiences.
Location: Remote
Key responsibilities include curriculum development, instruction and facilitation, learner support, assessment and reporting, community engagement, resource creation and maintenance, industry monitoring, collaboration with revenue cycle management teams, educational consultations, audit trend analysis, and participation in QA webinars, coding meetings, and vendor calibration calls.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities
- Knowledge of and experience using ICD-10-CM and CPT coding, specifically Inpatient Medicine
- Knowledge of Inpatient Medicine payor and coding guidelines
- Proficiency with Windows-based personal computers and Microsoft Excel, Word, Adobe, PowerPoint, and Zoom
- Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask
- Ability to research, identify problems, and resolve discrepancies
- Professional communication skills with employees, management, physicians, and vendors
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple competing priorities
Education and experience
- High school diploma or equivalent
- RHIT, RN, CPC, or CCS-P accreditation
- Inpatient Medicine pro-fee coding experience
