Coding Specialist

VNS Health

Reviews and audits claims for billing, coding, service, compliance, and reimbursement issues.

Assists with non-clinical aspects of the claims review process and serves as a coding resource.

Provides training and support to Medical Care at Home clinicians and staff to promote best practices in claims coding.

Applies coding skills to initiatives that support claims compliance.

Works under moderate supervision.

Requirements & Qualifications

Licenses and Certifications

  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), or Certified Risk Adjustment Coder (CRC) in ICD-10-CM coding preferred
  • Active certified coder certification through AHIMA or AAPC preferred

Education

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience required

Experience

  • Minimum 3 years of payor work experience with medical records, including ICD-10-CM or a current coding system and medical record systems

Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong knowledge of claims submission procedures and systems, state, federal, and Medicare regulations
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, physiology, pharmacology, disease processes, and related procedures
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology, provider reimbursement, ICD-10, HCPCS, and CPT-4 coding
  • PC literate with strong Microsoft applications skills
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and meet deadlines
