This medical billing specialist role is responsible for submitting insurance claims, following up on payments, managing rejected claims and patient accounts, and maintaining patient records to support timely and accurate reimbursement for healthcare services.
The position is on-site in Auburn, Alabama. Work hours are Monday through Thursday from 7:45am to 5:00pm and Friday from 7:45am to 12:00pm.
Prepare, submit, and track claims and invoices to patients and insurance companies including Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payers.
Post payments, reconcile EOBs, manage outstanding balances, and create payment plans when needed.
Investigate and resolve denied claims by contacting insurance companies and submitting appeals.
Respond to patient billing inquiries and explain account balances and payment options.
Maintain accurate patient health information and billing records in electronic and hard-copy formats.
Adhere to HIPAA regulations and stay current on healthcare regulations, medical terminology, and coding practices.
Serve as a liaison between patients, doctors, and insurance companies to resolve discrepancies and support communication.
Proficiency with medical billing software, EHR systems, and common coding systems such as CPT and ICD-10.
Ability to analyze billing issues, resolve discrepancies, and identify solutions for complex claims.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
High school diploma required.
Associate degree and professional certifications such as CPB from AAPC or CBCS from NHA preferred.
