Union Volunteer Emergency Squad, Inc. is the 9-1-1 EMS provider for the Town of Union, serving the southern tier of New York State along the Pennsylvania border.
This role supports the billing operations for emergency medical services and is responsible for the initial claims generation phase of the processing cycle.
The Billing Specialist plays an integral role in revenue generation and patient/third-party billing, while providing high-quality customer service in support of community EMS care.
Requirements & Qualifications
Qualifications
- 2 years of experience in a medical office environment with an emphasis on accounting, billing, administrative or medical assistance, and data entry
- Basic understanding of third-party insurance and the ability to discuss billing information with insurance companies and patients professionally
- EMT experience desired
- High school diploma or GED required
- Associate's degree from an accredited college or university preferred, or equivalent related experience and/or training
- Preferred areas of study: EMS Management, Healthcare Administration, Business Management, Accounting, or Finance
- Current NYS Certification at or above EMT-Basic desired
- Current AHA BLS Healthcare Provider certification
- Current NYS Operator's License or ability to obtain within 30 days
- Certified Ambulance Coder (CAC) or ability to obtain within one year
- Certified Professional Coder (CPC) desired
