Full-time position with the Fire Department, Finance Division.
Work location: 6750 Eastwood Trafficway.
Normal work schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
The Kansas City Fire Department (KCFD) is one of the largest and busiest fire departments in the Midwest, providing all-hazards emergency response services to more than 510,000 residents across 319 square miles. KCFD operates from 35 firehouses and responds to approximately 140,000 incidents annually, including fire suppression, emergency medical services, hazardous materials incidents, technical rescue, and disaster response.

Responsibilities
- Create and submit claims to insurance companies and patients
- Verify patient insurance coverage and eligibility
- Monitor claim status, investigate denials, and perform timely appeals
- Post payments, reconcile accounts, and generate patient statements
- Communicate with patients, providers, and insurance representatives regarding billing issues and pre-authorizations
- Interpret ambulance patient care reports (ePCR)
- Apply healthcare privacy regulations, including HIPAA
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- 4 years of public or private sector experience in medical and Medicaid medical billing, or 4 years of customer service experience
- May be required to obtain a Coding Specialist Certificate or an Ambulance Coder Certification
- Applicants should provide complete education and work history details, including dates and months/years of employment
- Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required
- Some positions may require a post-offer drug screen and/or physical
- Non-residents, if appointed, must obtain residency within Kansas City, Missouri city limits within nine months
