Job Summary

Medical billers are responsible for the timely submission of professional medical claims to insurance companies. This role verifies the completeness and accuracy of insurance claims prior to submission, reviews and appeals unpaid and denied claims, serves as a resource for CPT and ICD-10 inquiries, and answers patients' billing questions.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct interactions with everyone in a friendly, courteous, and respectful manner
  • Offer assistance to others and find help when needed
  • Protect privacy and confidentiality
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment
  • Respond appropriately and immediately in emergency situations
  • Comply with attendance and tardiness policies
  • Ensure compliance with regulations
  • Complete all required mandatory training and department requirements
  • Resolve insurance credit balances
  • Resolve self-pay balances
  • Reduce claims in hold status in a timely manner
  • Complete charge entry accurately and in a timely manner for selected providers
  • Assist practice staff in resolving patient billing complaints
  • Perform routine and specialized billing functions for third-party payers
  • Attend training and education seminars offered by third-party payers as directed by the supervisor
  • Keep the supervisor informed of backlogs or problems
  • Coordinate and complete special projects as assigned
  • Prepare accurate reports and analyses when directed
  • Assist with training new employees on patient account processes
Requirements & Qualifications

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Prior experience in medical billing preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Detail-oriented, dependable, and organized
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work to meet deadlines
  • Strong communication and computer skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Flexibility to perform multiple tasks
