The Billing Specialist is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely processing of patient and insurance billing, follow-up, and correspondence for University Hospital.
Key responsibilities include:
- Perform pre-billing preparations for electronic and manual claims submission
- Review pre-bill edit and error reports, make corrections, and resubmit claims
- Obtain or correct missing data elements needed for billing
- Mail hard copy claims to insurance carriers with required attachments
- Handle insurance billing, including coverage verification, accurate submission, and follow-up
- Maintain daily billing and follow-up logs and statistical reports
- Review denied claims for accuracy and resubmit with corrections when appropriate
- Investigate missing patient charges and enter corrected data
- Read medical records to gather information needed for re-billing
Requirements & Qualifications
Qualifications include:
- High School Diploma or GED required
- At least 3 years of progressively responsible clerical experience
- At least 1 year of experience in a physician's office, hospital billing office, or insurance company
- Experience must include billing, collections, and/or medical insurance activities
- Prior experience working in a computerized environment required
