Spine Center of Texas is seeking an experienced, detail-oriented Medical Billing and Medical Records Specialist to join the team in the Seguin office. This role supports accurate claim submission, timely reimbursement, and efficient medical records processing while providing excellent support to providers and patients.
This position is responsible for billing follow-up, claims management, accounts receivable, insurance verification, and maintaining accurate medical records in compliance with HIPAA and payer requirements.
Responsibilities
- Submit and monitor medical claims to commercial insurance, Medicare, Medicaid, and Workers' Compensation carriers.
- Perform aggressive insurance follow-up on unpaid, denied, and underpaid claims.
- Research claim denials and prepare corrected claims, reconsiderations, and appeals.
- Manage assigned accounts receivable to maximize collections.
- Verify patient insurance eligibility and benefits for office visits, procedures, and surgeries.
- Review documentation for completeness and accuracy prior to claim submission.
- Collaborate with providers and clinical staff to resolve documentation or coding discrepancies.
- Maintain accurate patient medical records and process medical records requests in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
- Upload, organize, and maintain electronic medical records.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and payer-specific billing regulations.
- Communicate professionally with insurance companies, patients, and providers regarding billing and medical record requests.
- Assist with other administrative duties as needed.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of medical billing experience.
- Accounts receivable experience required.
- Experience handling claim denials, appeals, and insurance follow-up.
- Medical records experience preferred.
- Knowledge of CPT, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS coding principles.
- Experience with electronic health records (EHR) and practice management software.
- Strong understanding of medical terminology and insurance guidelines.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and work independently in a fast-paced medical office.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Orthopedic, spine, pain management, or surgical practice experience is a plus.
