Leimkuehler Orthotic-Prosthetic Center is seeking an experienced, dependable, and patient-focused Patient Care & Medical Billing Specialist for its Amherst team.
This hybrid role combines patient care coordination and front-office support with medical billing and revenue-cycle responsibilities. The ideal candidate will work directly with patients while also handling insurance verification, documentation, claims processing, accounts receivable, reimbursement support, and related administrative duties.
The position is in-office only and may involve floating between locations as scheduled. Primary training and occasional travel to nearby regional offices may be required.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED; additional schooling or certifications in medical billing, healthcare administration, or related fields preferred
- 2–4 years of experience in a medical office, medical billing, patient access, revenue cycle, or similar healthcare administrative role
- Working knowledge of health insurance terminology and processes
- Experience verifying insurance eligibility and benefits
- Strong computer and technology skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, and PowerPoint
- Ability to learn new EMR, billing, and practice management systems
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
Preferred Skills
- 2+ years of direct medical billing or revenue-cycle experience
- Experience with claims submission, A/R follow-up, denials, appeals, and payment review
- Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance experience
- Knowledge of CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10 coding
- Orthotic and prosthetic, DME, specialty practice, or durable medical equipment billing experience
- Experience with prior authorizations and medical necessity documentation
- Associate or bachelor's degree in healthcare administration, business, medical billing, or a related field
- Medical billing, coding, or revenue-cycle certification
- Reliable, organized, self-directed, and customer-service oriented
