Billing Specialist

DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITY CENTER OF

The Billing Specialist is responsible for compiling and filing claims with government and commercial health insurance plans and individual patients.

Scope and Impact

This role serves as a direct link between the Billing Coordinator, QA Director, and DHHS. The Billing Specialist generates claims, receives payments, and interacts with the billing coordinator, providers, and clients. The claims generated represent significant revenue and directly impact budget goals, delivery of essential healthcare services, and achievement of the DDCN mission.

Job Duties

  • Receive, review, correct, and enter claim information into the billing system.
  • Follow up on pending claims to help ensure timely payments.
  • Resolve issues related to claim denials.
  • Receive payments, reconcile them with Explanation of Benefits, and post appropriately.
  • Perform responsibilities to meet timely filing and other time-sensitive requirements.
  • Maintain required files of all appropriate documents and information.
  • Comply with HIPAA and other regulations and requirements.
  • Communicate with and help individuals apply for Social Security benefits and other benefits with DHHS.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

  • Minimum of an associate degree or equivalent.
  • Touch typing/keyboarding and touch 10-key skills with speed and accuracy.
  • Working knowledge of Windows personal computer, Microsoft Word, and Excel.
