Billing Coordinator / Financial Counselor

Rocky Mountain Surgical Center

Performs routine clerical and administrative duties in the business office for an ambulatory surgical center. Responsibilities include typing, filing, accounting, charge entry, preparing insurance billings, processing bills and follow-up, assisting with medical records, scheduling, and patient registration. The role also provides financial counseling to patients before procedures to help them understand expected costs and financial responsibility.

Key duties include:

  • Answering incoming calls and directing them appropriately
  • Receiving patient and payer payments and balancing daily collections
  • Supporting admitting, scheduling, billing, data entry, word processing, medical records, filing, and mailing functions
  • Verifying third-party billing information and establishing deposit/payment schedules
  • Collecting out-of-pocket expenses before services are rendered
  • Posting payments and updating account adjustments, charges, and deductible information
  • Handling coding, billing, and claims follow-up to support facility reimbursement
  • Sending patient statements and collection notices
  • Managing patient payment plans and collections turnover preparation
  • Submitting insurance claims with supporting documentation
  • Working with payer representatives and resolving reimbursement issues
  • Communicating with patients, families, and internal/external stakeholders in a professional manner
Requirements & Qualifications

Previous experience in a medical business office is required. Previous medical coding experience is required. Bookkeeping or accounting experience is preferred.

Additional qualifications and skills include:

  • Effective reading, writing, and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
  • Detail-oriented with strong time management and organizational skills
  • Willingness to flex hours as needed to meet facility needs
  • Knowledge of accounts receivable, accounts payable, insurance billing, and collections
  • Familiarity with generally accepted accounting principles
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology
  • Ability to use web-based systems and tools
  • Comfortable working in a busy clinical business environment
  • Ability to interact professionally with patients and coworkers from diverse backgrounds
