Centralized Coding Outpatient Coding Analyst role with Covenant Health.
Position Summary
This position analyzes medical records to ensure proper sequencing and assignment of ICD-10-CM and CPT codes, confirms appropriate DRG assignment, communicates with physicians to clarify documentation, abstracts and enters medical record data for statistics and reporting, and assists the Business Office with timely billing of patient information.
Responsibilities
- Review medical records to determine ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and CPT codes in accordance with coding and reimbursement guidelines.
- Verify abstracted data and accurately enter clinical information to maintain database integrity.
- Apply UHDDS standards when selecting principal diagnosis, principal procedure, complications, and comorbid conditions.
- Review unbilled accounts and case mix reports to ensure timely coding and re-review when needed.
- Participate in coding and abstracting quality reviews.
- Communicate with physicians and assist with clarification of coding versus clinical issues.
- Assist other coders with questions and escalate as needed.
- Complete interim billing on rehabilitation and transitional care unit patients as requested.
- Follow policies, procedures, safety standards, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
- No specific minimum education required; equivalent combination of education and/or experience accepted.
- Typically equivalent to an associate degree.
- Bachelor’s degree in a directly related field preferred.
- No minimum experience required.
- No licensure required.
