Medical Billing Analyst

Job Summary

The Medical Billing Analyst is an intermediate-level billing position within the Hospital or Physicians Billing Offices for Albany Med Health System. The role focuses on timely follow-up for accounts that have already been billed but require rebilling, payer follow-up when no response has been received within regulatory guidelines, and denial resolution or appeal activities.

This position handles more intricate denials that may require a professional narrative and supporting documentation to overturn. The role also requires the ability to learn quickly, work independently, use payer websites to research policies, and meet production standards after onboarding and training.

Key Responsibilities

  • Resolve complex billing edits on previously billed claims.
  • Follow up on no-response work queues through phone, email, and payer websites.
  • Respond to denials with rebilling or appeals, as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with coding and other departments to resolve claim issues.
  • Identify payer trends and communicate them to leadership.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed account notes.
  • Navigate payer websites to review policies and adjudication details.
  • Use Epic, OnBase, and related platforms effectively.
  • Work independently under deadlines and meet daily and weekly productivity standards.
  • Support revenue cycle management efforts to reduce aging accounts receivable.

Requirements & Qualifications

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Associate degree preferred
  • Prior office experience preferred
  • Medical billing or claims knowledge preferred
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to communicate with peers and leadership
  • Ability to learn and follow instructions effectively
  • Strong prioritization and task execution skills in a high-volume environment
  • Microsoft Office and website navigation knowledge
  • CCS, CIC, or COC certification preferred upon hire
  • Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted
