Insurance Billing/Collection Assistant III - Surgery

Performs advanced billing and collection activities as a Lead IBC Assistant for physician services. The role involves collection follow-up, verifying claim accuracy and completeness, contacting insurance companies and collection agencies to expedite payments, and handling discounts, adjustments, and charge corrections.

Primary Duties

  • May act as a lead IBC Assistant and provide guidance to other assistants
  • Perform collection follow-up on commercial insurance, self-pay, Medicare, and Medicaid claims
  • Make collection calls to insurance companies and patients to support timely payment of claims
  • Review remittance advice for rejection issues and payment accuracy
  • Verify charge tickets and monitor claim attachments to maximize reimbursement
  • Contact insurance companies about payment posting and collection agencies about payment reports
  • Respond to billing and collection questions from insurance companies and support customer service
  • Provide backup support for Accounts Receivable staff during peak periods, vacations, and illnesses

Requirements & Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent, or a combination of education and experience
  • 3 years of billing or insurance experience
  • No specific certification or professional license required

  • 2 years of post-secondary education

  • Confidential data handling
