UVA Medical Center is seeking a Coding Quality Specialist II supporting orthopedic surgery and musculoskeletal services.
This role assigns and reviews the accuracy of ICD-10-CM and CPT codes for providers’ evaluation and management services, procedures, and diagnostic testing across all settings for billing, research, and reporting purposes. The position also reviews documentation in the medical record to assign ICD-10-CM, CPT-4, HCPCS, and modifiers in a timely manner, resolves charge sessions and claim edits, supports providers with coding questions, and helps ensure compliance with governmental and payer guidelines.
The role works with Epic, other electronic medical record systems, paper documentation, and coding reference resources. It also includes peer review, physician queries, issue resolution, and mentorship of Level 1 Coding Quality Specialist staff as directed by coding leadership.
This is a fully remote position.
High School Diploma or GED required.
2+ years of relevant coding experience required.
Certified Professional Coder (CPC) required.
Experience with ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, modifiers, charge review, documentation review, and coding compliance preferred.
Ability to communicate coding guidance to providers and support peer review and mentorship activities.
