Job Summary
The Credit Balance Specialist examines all credit balances before refunds or adjudications and ensures compliance with billing and coding laws as well as the Baylor Scott & White Code and Ethical Conduct Policy.
Essential Functions
- Account for all patient credit balances.
- Ensure all credit balances are handled in a timely manner.
- Determine why an account has a credit balance with little or no supervision.
- Review patient accounts for posting errors before considering refund or adjudication.
- Search for related accounts before refunding private pay credit balances.
- Understand managed care contracts and contractual adjustments.
- Process credit balance paperwork and posting in a timely manner.
- Monitor and report trends to management.
- Document productivity daily for reporting.
- Follow quality review standards.
Requirements & Qualifications
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Less than 1 year of experience.
