OneOncology is seeking a Medical Coding Specialist to support patient-centric oncology care through accurate charge review, coding, and documentation auditing.
This role performs daily review of visits, diagnoses, radiation oncology services, and surgeries to ensure correct level assignment and coding accuracy. The specialist also enters charges into the practice management system or EMR and may audit documentation from physicians, nurse practitioners, and clinical oncology staff for CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS, and modifier accuracy.
The position supports coding compliance efforts, audit requests, and reporting needs within a collaborative, mission-driven team. The role is remote-eligible and focused on improving processes that support physicians and the patients they serve.
Required or preferred qualifications:
- CPC, CCS-P, or another professional coding certification required
- Minimum of 4 years of coding experience preferred
- 2 years of experience performing chart audits or assigning CPT and ICD-10 codes through documentation review in a physician practice or hospital environment required
- Knowledge of medical oncology, radiation oncology, and surgery coding/leveling highly preferred
- Familiarity with CPT, ICD-9, HCPCS, anatomy, and medical terminology
- Ability to review charges and claims for accurate coding of ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes
- Ability to abstract surgical procedures and determine appropriate place of service and medical decision-making levels for E/M services
- Strong communication, analytical, and time-management skills
- Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, Outlook, payer websites, databases, patient scheduling tools, and other medical information systems
