This is a remote opportunity, but the selected candidate must be able to attend onsite training for the first 3-6 months.
Bring your coding experience to work that supports timely, accurate billing across emergency and urgent care services. This role reviews medical records, assigns accurate ICD-10-CM and/or CPT codes, resolves documentation needs, and contributes ideas that strengthen coding processes.
What you will do
- Review medical records and abstract clinical data into Epic and/or Fastrack.
- Assign ICD-10-CM and/or CPT codes accurately and ethically using approved coding resources.
- Review encounters requiring documentation or clarification to support timely billing.
- Meet established productivity, deadline, bill-hold, and accounts receivable goals.
- Maintain current knowledge of CMS, State of Ohio, and official coding guidance.
- Identify coding process improvement opportunities and communicate ideas to management.
What will help you be successful
- Experience with ED or urgent care coding.
- Exposure to ED-to-inpatient coding, procedures, and infusions.
- Ability to apply existing processes when information is incomplete or a situation is less routine.
- Strong organization and follow-through when managing documentation and billing timelines.
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 2+ years of work experience
- Certification or credential as CCS, RHIT, RHIA, CPC, CPC-A, or CCS-P
- Preferred: ED or urgent care coding experience, including exposure to procedures, infusions, and ED-to-inpatient work
