Performs clinical testing in assigned laboratory sections, including general laboratory, Blood Bank, and Microbiology, to support accurate and timely patient results. The role includes quality control, performance improvement, proficiency testing, preventative maintenance, specimen processing, result reporting, clerical duties, phlebotomy support, and blood product dispensing as requested by medical staff.
The position works from 2:00 PM to 10:30 PM on a full-time schedule.
Requirements & Qualifications
Education
- Associate degree or higher in clinical laboratory science or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution, or equivalent laboratory training and experience meeting CLIA requirements.
- Must meet one of the listed CLIA eligibility pathways, including approved military training or required semester hours in science/medical laboratory coursework.
- Laboratory training through an approved or accredited clinical laboratory training program, or documented training in each specialty performed.
Experience
- No experience required for graduates of an approved clinical laboratory training program.
- Alternatively, six months of approved clinical laboratory experience with rotations in Blood Banking, Microbiology, Chemistry, Hematology, Immunology, and Urinalysis/Body Fluids.
Licensure and Certification
- Louisiana state licensure required for work in Louisiana.
- New graduates must be board certified or eligible and complete board certification within one year of hire, except in Louisiana.
Other Qualifications
- Ability to perform laboratory testing, specimen handling, and reporting accurately.
- Familiarity with CLIA, CAP, AABB, JCAHO, and OSHA standards.
