Under the direct supervision of the registered nurse, the Electrophysiology/Cardiovascular Tech (CVT) functions as an integral part of the cath lab team to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive procedures.
Primary responsibilities include preparing and maintaining the sterile field, passing instruments, assisting the cardiologist within scope of practice, and collaborating with the care team to support continuous quality improvement.
The role includes participation in scheduled on-call coverage during nights, weekends, and holidays.
Requirements & Qualifications
Education
- Applied Science degree in Cardiovascular Technology or another related medical field
- Graduates of accredited Cardiovascular Technology programs must hold nationally accredited certification or be eligible for certification
Certification and licensure
- ACLS certification is mandatory
- Current Cardiovascular Tech or Radiology Tech license required
- Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) credential must be obtained within 18 months of hire
Experience and skills
- Experience preferred
- Strong interpersonal skills with an emphasis on collaborative team behaviors
- Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and basic equipment used in cardiac procedures
- Ability to monitor and document vital signs, EKG tracing, pressures, hemodynamic data, medications, contrast, and supplies during procedures
- Ability to safely prepare patients and equipment for cardiac procedures
