The Medical Records Director/Coder oversees all Health Information Management functions in accordance with applicable guidelines and regulations. This is a self-directed role that requires the ability to meet deadlines and work quickly in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
Responsibilities include reviewing medical records and assigning diagnostic and procedure codes for inpatient, outpatient, and discharged patient records. The role also retrieves clinical information to support accurate MS-DRG assignment and ensure compliance with federal regulations.
Degree in Health Information Management, or previous related training and experience.
Current RHIT or RHIA registration and CCS/CPC-H certification required.
Must have a full understanding of HIPAA/ROI regulations and working knowledge of Joint Commission standards and UHDDS coding guidelines.
Strong communication skills, ability to work as part of a team, and excellent office, clerical, organizational, and attention-to-detail skills required.
Courses or training in medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, and coding/classification systems preferred.
